About

The New York Institute for the Humanities and Social Studies welcomes you to our official website which will guide you through our unique organization, ideas, activities, and efforts to preserve innate human experiences in these challenging times.

Our collective humanity is enduring an exceptionally turbulent period, burdened with historically unprecedented social and individual crises, unresolved conflicts, inequality, systemic racism, and loss of public life. At the same time, we are experiencing a highly visible erosion of bedrock values and norms that underpin our social and cultural life.

Even though our Institute is facing a future with these uncertainties, we are doing our best to preserve enthusiasm, ignite new creative ideas, and offer new perspectives within the sciences and arts, which will guide us through difficulties and enrich our lives in the most authentic ways.

The New York Institute for the Humanities and Social Studies is situated in the middle of one of the most vibrant and competitive environments of the Western Hemisphere. Many of us feel a strong urge to silence the noise, expand our vision, and create a better reality for all. We feel an interest in joining other individuals and institutions that prioritize our voices. On a daily level, our growing team is working hard to make more connections with scholars and artists worldwide, as we truly believe that this cultural exchange needs not only to be preserved but advanced, especially in times of sadness, solitude, and fear.

With our mission to discover ways to move forward with future-oriented ideas, we want to be part of a big change. On this quest, we do not want to lose precious ties with the past but rather want to give it new forms, perspectives, and meanings.

Profoundly tuned to the people and communities, we want to hear your story, inspire you to pass it to others, elevate diverse voices, and above all, to feel welcome. The more we are true to ourselves, the more we are contributing to the beautiful complexity of the world. Let us keep our differences alive, and together search for new avenues of expression.

Having said this, our mission compels us to engage fully and decisively to leverage our academic and cultural pursuits in our quest for the new humanities. Join us in reaching new horizons in research and arts.
