Dr Jelena Arnautović

Musicology, Cultural Theory and Anthropology

Dr Jelena Arnautović is a musicologist and media and cultural studies scholar, based in Toronto, Canada. She teaches sessionally at the University of Toronto, Department of Arts, Media and Culture, and manages Sunny Day School of Music in Toronto. Previously, she was an Assistant Professor at the University of Pristina, Faculty of Arts and a Visiting Scholar at Brock University, St Catharines and Fondazione Donne in Musica in Rome. Dr Arnautović published 2 monographs and more than 30 journal articles and book chapters, was an editor-in-chief for an academic journal and a conference publication, and co-edited or peer-reviewed many academic publications in the field of Humanities and Social Studies. She regularly presents her research work at international conferences in Europe and North America and forges academic partnerships with other scholars. Her research is centred on the political economy of media and popular music, with a special interest in former Yugoslavia and the Balkans, and intercultural dialogues and identity representations in music, culture, and media. Her current research project is focused on the role of social, electronic, and printed media in civic activism. Dr. Arnautović is a member of the Canadian Sociological Association and the Musicological Association of Serbia. She speaks English, Serbian, Croatian, French, and Italian.
