Dr. Ana Hofman

Ethnomusicology and Cultural Anthropology

Dr. Ana Hofman is an ethnomusicologist and anthropologist and a Senior Research Fellow Research Centre at the Institute of Cultural and Memory Studies of Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Dr. Hofman has profound experience and interest in music, sound and politics in socialist and post-socialist societies, with an emphasis on gender, memory and activism.

 

Dr. Hofman also serves as a lecturer at ZRC SAZU Postgraduate School, Ljubljana. In Winter semester 2017 Dr. Hofman was a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Performing Arts, Graz, Austria, while in Summer semester 2018 she was honored with a Postdoctoral Fulbright Fellowship at the Graduate School of City University of New York in the United States.

 

In 2018, Dr. Hofman was awarded by the Danubius Mid-Career Award by the Austrian Ministry of Education, Science and Research and the Institute for Central Europe and Danube Region for her research. Her current project is focused on the singing activism in the area of former Yugoslavia and collective sound making in the political condition defined by social fragmentation and exhaustion of the neoliberal state.
